    Barnetby (21 images)
A day at Barnetby in not the best of weather and according to the crossing keeper at New Barnetby one of the quietest days he had known, just my luck. Oh and I also managed to miss celebrity tugs 60040 and 60044.
    August 2008 (26 images)
A Bluebird at Plawsworth and a pair of Choppers at Picton. Duffs at Dawdon on a cold dull Saturday. A Deltic at Plawsworth on a sunny Saturday Morning for a change. A variety at Browney including a diverted Royal Mail train. Finally for this month a few hours at Durham netted a pair of HST power cars in the new XC livery.

A day trip into Yorkshire with my young friend James Stoker netted some interesting pictures.
    June 2008 (24 images)
Flaming June not in my neck of the woods. Glorious days till I pick up a camera, so here are the first of the month in full dull. Haltwhistle today for an hour a couple of DMUs and a FLHH 66. 47s at Dawdon on the Grand Central shuttles, and a pair of 31s on a test train. Virgin Thunderbirds on the GC shuttles at Browney and Dawdon.
    May 2008 (39 images)
First trip of the month up the Tyne Valley to catch D1015 hauling The Western Scot Railtour, as usual the weather was dull. Second trip in as many days, across to the S & C at Garsdale to picture the pair of EWS 37s hauling the Settle Carlisle Experience railtour. Took a bus full of school children to Hartlepool today with four hours to kill it gave me an opportunity to take some pictures. Railtours again today 62005 Lord of the Isles and WCRC 47760 in charge of the East Coast Explorer and the surprise of the day 67014 in the new Wrexham and Shropshire livery heading the Northern Belle. A pair of 37s at Dawdon on hire to Grand Central the same pair I went all the way to Garsdale to phot and two weeks later they are 5 miles from where I live typical. The Stobart Pullman at Durham in rotten weather, but in good company with James Stoker. Out tonight for the West Highland Weekend coming down the Tyne Valley unfortunately it was 67 late. More Duffs at Dawdon on the Grand Central due to power car failures. 37s and 47s at Plawsworth
    Shildon Diesel Gala (14 images)
Not the biggest diesel gala, but a Western and the re-liveried blue tug made it worth a visit
    April 2008 (14 images)
An evening trip to Tyne Yard netted a pair of 31s on a Serco. The sun finally decided to shine this evening so a ride to Plawsworth caught a pair of ex Midland Mainline 43s heading south light.
    Re-edited pictures (2 images)
There are only three shots in this gallery two of them are already in the March Gallery. However they have been edited in a totally different way it is just a test to see if they look any better comments would be greatly appreciated
    March 2008 (34 images)
The start of another month and out to phot Bittern as it passed through Browney. However 66s from three different companies, plus a freshly reliveried Voyager made it an interesting afternoon. Second trip out this month just to phot the Whitby Perth railtour hauled by West Coast 47s at Seaham Harbour.
Third outing this month to catch Fastline's 56303 head The Choppington Changer on the York Newcastle leg of the railtour, unfortunately the weather was dull to start with and got duller as the day progressed.
A Deltic day out (7 images)
Out to catch the Deltic Pioneer and Settle & Carlisle Winter Wonderland railtours, the NRMT was a bonus
    Tees Yard (12 images)
A shadow of what it once was, but enough happening to make it interesting, plus a chance meeting with James Stoker who was out and about with his camera, made for a very pleasant afternoon.
    Thirsk (13 images)
A beautiful winters day so what better than a ride out to a different location.
    February 2008 (25 images)
A day out trying to phot the Tynesider Railtour, caught a bit of action in Tyne Yard, with trip to Teesside mid February, and to round the month off a day at Durham at Newton Hall and of course the station.
    Tynesider Railtour (7 images)
Duke of Gloucester BR Class 8P headed the Tynesider Railtour today. Everything was going fine till the driver ran a red signal. This somewhat changed the itinerary and the timings for the rest of the day.
Sunday Morning at Tyne Yard (7 images)
I was in Newcastle early this morning and thought I would have a look round by Tyne Yard. Not really expecting there to be anything there. However a few sheds, and a tug, plus a voyager in the service siding, and me with no camera. So the Mobile was pressed into service, not ideal but better than nothing.
    January 2008 (40 images)
Teesside to start the month and an unexpected visit to York The only thing that has been consistent is the diabolical weather. A bit of sunshine at last, and a different location for me Akley Wood between Durham and Newton Hall.
A snowy day in January (10 images)
The first snowfall of the year, so I had a ride to Sunderland Bridge and took a few shots.
    National Express HST (3 images)
Three pictures of the new National Express livery applied to an HST set. Not the best shot but at least it gives an idea of what it looks like. Personally I quite like it.
    December Collection (37 images)
So the dark days of December are with us and Christmas is here and gone. The franchise change at GNER and Virgin have meant more phots than usual of these companies stock. A nice little trip down into North Yorkshire netted a few more shots in a couple of different locations. Finally for this month a trip to Teesside and a shot of the elusive Grand Central HST set
    York Station (20 images)
Down in York today to catch three different railtours but mainly The Cathedral Express with Class 50 Defiance on the northern leg and A4 Union of South Africa on the return. Only one thing spoilt it, the weather was abysmal full dull with the added bonus of icy rain.
    November Collection (46 images)
A mixed bag for the month and a new location at Hett Mill level crossing near Durham
    Cargo Fleet (15 images)
A day at Cargo Fleet in sunshine and cloud in the hope of seeing a good variety of freight, not to be only EWS out and about
    Yarm (16 images)
Great to be somewhere where there is no electrification, and a clear shot is possible. Not a tremendous amount of freight traffic, but four companies represented.
    October Collection (45 images)
Out and about again seen a couple of the latest DRS 66s in fact the traffic on the ECML appears to be a bit more varied at the moment lets hope it stays that way
    September Collection (4 images)
Very little this month, been in hospital for an op. Finally got out for a couple of hours on the last day of the month.
    Carlisle (37 images)
Took a trip up the Tyne Valley line to Carlisle and spent a very pleasant day in glorious sunshine for a change.
    Penrith (10 images)
Had a few days in the Lake District with the family, managed to escape for a couple of hours to Penrith Station.
    August Collection (39 images)
Out and about in August shot a couple of 47's a 37 and the usual 60's & 66's
    Ravenglass & Eskdale (12 images)
A very pleasant day on this narrow gauge railway in Cumbria. This collection also includes pictures of the world smallest class 66.
    Darlington South Junction (18 images)
This used to be an excellent spot to view the ECML, however it is now so overgrown there is practically no view south, and very little to the north, the station is still visible from one vantage point.
    July Collection (23 images)
    Out and about in July
A sunny evening at Browney (14 images)
A couple of hours spent Browney netted a few 66's and an EWS 67 hauling a GBRf 66 coal train
    HST Gallery (39 images)
I have always liked the HST so here is gallery exclusively for this loco. I will add to it through time.
    June Collection (26 images)
Just the usual bits and bobs for the month.
    Brandon (21 images)
A sunny afternoon at Brandon yielded some decent shots, but the EWS double headed coal train I wanted to shoot was late. Just putting the gear in the car when it went by.
    Sunderland Bridge (14 images)
I think this is the first time this year when the sun has shone for nearly the whole time I was out.
    Thornaby Station (12 images)
Had a ride to Thornaby thought there will be loads of freight workings out of Tees Yard. Wrong again, so here is the photographic evidence of a poor day.
    Newcastle Derailment (4 images)
A derailment of an EWS empty coal train on the King Edward Bridge just outside of Newcastle Central Station, brought massive disruption to the ECML here are a few shots.
    May Collection (53 images)
Some pictures from around Durham & Newcastle in May
Trains from the Thames (26 images)
Recently had a holiday on a boat on the Thames so here are a few pictures of trains taken from the river.
Durham Station from Wharton Park (6 images)
Wharton Park is situated above Durham Station and affords some excellent views over Durham but in particular the viaduct south of the station.
Easter Monday Chasing a Railtour (13 images)
The Easter Highland Pullman was advertised as topped and tailed with a 47 turned out it was double headed by a 37 and 47.
    April Collection (16 images)
A few shots taken during the month of April
GBRf 66713 Forest City (16 images)
Back at Durham today at Reilly Bridge and caught GBRf 66713 pulling a rake of empty mud oil tanks from Aberdeen. The day was a bit misty hence the cloudy look to some of the shots.
    Tyne Yard (48 images)
This was once one of the biggest marshalling yards in the North East, although half of it has now gone it is still used by EWS, and is still an interesting place to spend an hour or two. There appears to be at least 14 class 37's in storage of which I have taken some pictures from a long way off and fiddled around with them in Adobe. I did manage one trip into the yard and got one shot before being caught !
Sheds, Shops, Bombers, Trams a Tug and some Seimens 185's (22 images)
A couple of hours outside of Durham, nearly froze to death but stayed the course and got one or two decent shots.
    A day at Chester-le Street (22 images)
Spent a very pleasant couple of hours on this station mainly to catch trains moving at speed, and give my new Nikon D50 and Sigma lens a bit of a work out.
Trains from the 1980's (11 images)
These are some pictures shot many years ago on the West Coast Mainline just south of Lancaster, and on the East Coast Mainline during electrification, and all workings were re-routed onto the Leamside branch line these pictures were taken at Fence Houses
A day on the North York Moors (4 images)
Having a rummage in the camera bag tonight and found an SD card with these four pics on it.

    About Me
Hi, my name is John Lonsdale. I have been taking photographs for many years with a succession of film SLR cameras. However I have never been particularly serious about it, and my photography can only be termed as decent quality snaps with one or two exceptions when by good luck I took a good photograph. I stopped taking photographs and switched to video when the kids were young, as this seemed to be a better medium to capture this time in their lives. I got back into photography when I bought a new computer and there was a digital camera in with the deal. This camera, and the software on the computer totally fascinated me, and over the past few years I have been steadily improving my camera equipment and computer software to try and take high quality digital images. I currently use a Nikon D200. Lens wise I use a Nikon 18-55, a Nikon 18-135, a Nikon 70-300, a Nikon 50 mm f1.8, and a Sigma 28-200. I still have some way to go but the quality is improving.
